The climate of a place can affect the living organisms of that area.
The animals living in a particular region adapt themselves so that they can survive the weather conditions of that place.
The features and habits of the animals start to change as per the climate of the place.
ADAPTATIONS: The presence of specific body features (or certain habits) which enable an animal or a plant to live in a particular habitat (or surroundings) is called adaptation. The body features and habits that help animals (and plants) to adapt to their particular habitat.
For example : camel is best suited to survive in desert.
Now we will learn about two major regions with different climatic conditions:
1. POLAR REGIONS
2. TROPICAL REGIONS
POLAR REGIONS: The regions actually encompass the areas north of Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle(blue colored region). Some well-known countries that belong to the polar regions are Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Alaska in U.S.A. and Siberian region of Russia. In winters, the temperature can be as low as –37°C.
TROPICAL REGIONS: The tropical region has generally a hot
climate because of its location around
the equator. Even in the coldest month
the temperature is generally higher than
about 15°C. During hot summers, the
temperature may cross 40°C.The length of the day and night are almost equal in these regions. However, there is a lot of rainfall and so the tropical rainforests are found in this region. Examples of some countries where
the tropical rainforests are found are
India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil,
Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, and
Nigeria.
